St. Mary's International School — Campus Reconstruction Project
A brief description of the St. Mary's reconstruction project
St. Mary's reconstruction project launched in 2006–2007 and the ground-breaking took place in early 2008. The school has been granted a very low interest, long-term loan from the Japan Development Bank (JDB).
The School Corporation has formed a Building Committee to oversee the project planning and a Finance Sub-Committee to oversee the financial planning. Two architects, Mr. Tony Ko and Mr. Edward Suzuki (both St. Mary's alumni), have been contracted to design and plan the entire campus development project. A project advisor, Mr. Karl Studnicka, has been hired as the school's representative and liaison between the school, the architects and the builders.
All faculty members have been involved in providing input into the school design, a process that took quite some time during the month of February 2007. The architects proceeded with the detailed design of the project and we have acquired the necessary permits for the construction phases.
A cultural artifacts excavation, required by Japanese law, began in July 2007 on the school baseball field and finished in January 2008. With the loss of the baseball field, we devised a plan to reconfigure one existing tennis court and a playground so as to have a field for running space for PE classes and after-school sports.
The Master Plan outlines three phases:
Phase 1: Classrooms/Administration Building & Brothers' Residence, completed in March 2009
Phase 2: April 2009–August 2010 — Gym/Art/Music Building, Pool/Cafeteria Building, Baseball Field
Phase 3: September 2010–March 2011 — Multi-Purpose Facility, Parking Lot
The school aims to provide the best in safety, environment, technical capabilities and facilities for our 21st Century learners; a school environment reflective of current and changing academic programs that will meet the needs of future generations of St. Mary's students. As our building project continues to move ahead, the aim is to ensure that the program offered to students remains as strong as ever.
For this, we need your support through Annual Giving. Tax-free donations can be made in Japan or in the U.S.A.
